Let us start by understanding what time management is. If you’re someone who works and finishes all tasks on time, eats all the three meals on time, spends time with family and friends and also gets some leisure time for yourself- you already know how to manage your time.

Let us now understand why it is important to manage time. Benjamin Franklin once said that time is money. Just like money, time must be managed properly. If you manage time properly you find the right balance between your work, leisure and rest time. You effectively accomplish the things that matter most in your life. Good time management allows you to work smarter, and not harder.

What happens when you do not manage your time properly? Failing to manage your time damages your effectiveness and causes stress. You might end up feeling really unproductive as well. Here are some points to keep in mind in order to manage time efficiently.

1. Set your goals:

Before you start off with anything, it is important for you to know what you want to achieve for the day or how you want to feel at the end of the day. I am sure we all want to feel happy, peaceful and accomplished at the end of each day. Hence, write down your goal and tasks for the day. Note that set a personal as well as professional goal. Make sure the goal is realistic and achievable.

2. Prioritise:

This might look a little complicated. Because when you have a set of tasks to do, it might be difficult to understand which one is more important among the others. However, once you figure out your priority it gets easier to finish other tasks as well. If you do not know how to prioritize, ask yourself, “Will this help me achieve my goal?” .

3. Make a schedule:

Scheduling your day is very important. No matter how big or small the task is, it is important that you schedule a time for it and finish it on time. Due to some reason if you are not able to finish the task in the scheduled time, do not eat time from other scheduled tasks- leave it for time being and finish it at the end of the day.

4. Do not procrastinate:

Procrastination is one of the main reasons why you can end up feeling unproductive. Do not push off tasks too much.

5. Focus on one task at a time:

There might be too many things that you have to do on a day. But you need to know that multitasking is not the key. Schedule things and do one task at a time. Finish one task and move to the other. If you do too many things at one time, you might end up completing none.

Remember to take breaks in between your tasks. It is important for your mind to feel refreshed. This helps you in moving to other tasks and finishing them smoothly. Make sure you stick to this routine and practice it on a regular basis.
